My God is a Way-Maker Pt 6: Walking In The Way

With each new day, I realize more and more that I cannot figure out the full extent of my destiny. I can guess and speculate, but my thoughts only ever amount to a hill of beans (country slang for “it amounts to very little or nothing”).

I’m here to free you of the burden of OMNISCIENCE. You don’t have to have it all figured out. As a matter of fact, you will NEVER have it all figured out, lol, no matter how hard you try! Only the LORD is omniscient and He tells us in His word:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Isn’t that a relief!!! Whew….I was getting so tired of trying to KNOW IT ALL.

That is an ever-present temptation to mankind. We are always trying to figure out the HOW, WHY, WHO, WHEN, WHERE, and it can be so stressful chasing down those answers.

The scriptures advise us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Stop trying to figure everything out and make your own way, when you have access to God [through Jesus Christ], Who is the WAY-MAKER. If you trust in Him with all that is within you, He will lead you in the way you should go.

Often we find ourselves bound up in either arrogance or anxiety in regards to the path of our future.

Some people are so “confident” in themselves and their abilities, that they believe themselves to have it all figured out. Only they never planned for the job loss, the death of a spouse or child, the diagnosis of cancer, and so on. It is only when they are faced with impossible situations that some begin to realize that they never were in control of their destiny.

On the flip side, there are some people who stay in a constant state of anxiety about what tomorrow holds. They cannot live for today because they are in for fear of what will happen tomorrow. And often their perspective is colored by past events. They are stressed over what has been and what will be, failing to enjoy life and the precious time they have.

Do any of you fall into these examples? I must admit that at various points in my life I fell into one or the other. And neither brought satisfaction, peace, or joy.

It wasn’t until I came into relationship with Jesus that I even began to realize that there was more to life than what I had experienced. My transformation was not overnight. It wasn’t even in a year’s time. Slowly, and step by step, I have changed and not by my doing, but by the power of the word of God. And there are many steps left to take! I have not made it to the goal, obviously since I am still here on earth to write this teaching. I, as you, will continue to grow in maturity by walking the path laid before us by God until we are with God.

The LORD advises us in the scriptures “Stand by the roads and look; and ask for the eternal paths, where the good, old way is; then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)

What this means is, seek God and ask Him for the way, the direction to go.

There is only ONE way, and He will lead you to it, but it is up to you to walk in it. Only then will you find rest (peace) for your soul as you live in this world. In the search for direction, you cannot ignore the instructions already laid before you. Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The word of God is full of His direction and guidance. Whenever I need understanding or I need help in a certain situation, I turn to His word. The word of God has general direction for life circumstances, and it is far more wise than anything we (as individuals) are capable of devising. And if you are looking for the specific guidance in a particular instance, we have a HELPER (Holy Spirit) in Whom we must wholly rely on for that that direction.

So what does the word have in store for the two examples of life travelers listed earlier?

For the arrogant life traveler, the word says “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:13-17)

And the word advises the anxious life traveler thus:
“Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?
And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his [d]magnificence (excellence, dignity, and grace) was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear? For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.
But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:25-34)

Though different in tone and length, both scriptures have the same theme: TRUST IN GOD

Psalm 37:23 tells us “The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord, And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].”

Your path cannot be directed or established without having trust in the One Who is directing and establishing!

We return to Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

The explanation of God’s will could not be more simple! The way could not be made more clear than it already has been.

Jesus said “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life, and there are few who find it..” (Matthew 7:13-14)

To me that screams of simplicity!
The way of God is narrow and difficult to travel. Therefore the directions are more concise and clear that any other way.

Our directions are laid out in the Holy Bible for “All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

And you as a believer in Christ have a Helper, the Spirit of Truth, who “will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future]. He will glorify and honor Me [Jesus], because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Because of this I said that He [the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you.” (John 16:13-15)

So you don’t have to have it ALL FIGURED OUT. All you have to know is that God knows what has been, what is, and what will be. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, and He has given us direction and instruction in His word to lead us according to His perfect will. On our part, we are to be obedient and steadfast in our Christian walk, always seeking the guidance of God, who is our Way-Maker. He will not let us down, leave us alone, or lead us wrong.
