Watering Dead Plants

Image
“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12) This morning, shortly after my daughter woke up, she decided to water her cactus plant that her grandmother bought for her over the summer. Every few months, she remembers the poor thing and decides to water it. This morning, when I saw what she was doing, I chuckled and said, “I know you are not watering that thing? You do know it’s dead?” And she looked at me and said “No, it’s not dead!” Then she watered it. Instantly I heard in my spirit “ WATERING DEAD PLANTS ” and I thought of the church. The disciple John wrote “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” I was drawn to the word “has” in this scripture where it says “He who HAS the Son…”. In Greek, the word here is “ ECHO .” Listed below is an in-depth meaning of this greek word: To have, to hold, in the sense of wearing, to have or comprise or involve; to have in term

Be Prepared to Defend Your Position

When I was in middle school, I played in the school band. I was the only girl in the trumpet section, and I was also the first chair (or lead) trumpet player. That means I was the most proficient trumpet player and often I was tasked with playing the most difficult parts of the musical pieces. First chair was not something you took lightly though, because in band there is a procedure used by the band director to ensure the most proficient players were positioned as first chair. It was called the CHAIR CHALLENGE . And you had to be ready (prepared) to defend your position, especially if you were first chair. You see, other chair positions were given the opportunity to challenge a higher chair for their position. The challenger determined the music that was to be played and the defender could not refuse the challenge. In our school, CHAIR CHALLENGES were usually a surprise. You weren’t told beforehand that one would be coming up, so you had to stay in a state of readiness. You had

A Turnaround

“The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.” (Jeremiah 18:7-10) This is a word from the LORD spoken to Jeremiah thousands of years ago. Yet it is just as relevant to us today. You may be asking “How is that?” What does the Old Testament have to do with me? The word nation used here is the Hebrew word “goy” and it means nations and peoples as in EVERY nation , including Hebrew and Gentile. So this is a word from the LORD for EVERY nation upon the face of the earth as long as there are nations upon the face of the earth. And we know from Isaiah
